SMP For Alopecia

Alopecia is a medical condition that is the cause of many hair loss problems. There are different types of alopecia, but sadly, most are not curable. The condition tends to appear suddenly at any stage in life and is difficult to reverse. It is also widespread, with close to 150 million sufferers across the world.

They are generally classified into two categories: scarring alopecia and non-scarring alopecia.

Types of Alopecia

There are different types of alopecia, all of which have their particular causes and effects, viz:

  • Androgenic alopecia – Androgenic alopecia, is the most common type of alopecia in both men and women. It is a genetic condition, and it is irreversible.
  • Alopecia areata – Alopecia areata causes circular patches of lost hair, which can be absolute or partial. It causes hair loss in circular patches, which can be partial or total. There are distinct types of alopecia areata.
  • Alopecia totalis – This is one of the variants of alopecia areata. This subtype refers to a total loss or virtual total loss of hair on an individual’s head. It accounts for as much as 5% of patients who have this autoimmune disorder.
  • Alopecia universalis – Similarly to alopecia areata and alopecia totalis, alopecia universalis refers to the disappearance or near disappearance of all hair in the body. As a rare type of alopecia, it accounts for 1% of all presented cases.
  • Traction alopecia – Traction alopecia occurs when hair regularly strained or pulled, especially among people who braid their hair or use weaves, or preferred hair pieces. If caught early enough, regrowth can take place after some time.

How Does SMP Help

Scalp micropigmentation treatment uses microneedles that add a layer of pigment dots on your scalp in a manner similar to getting a tattoo. Micropigmentation on scalp treatments customarily happens over three sessions. That said, there is some variation that is dependent on your hair loss severity, the style you desire, and other elements that come into play.

During the procedure, the skin gets a small wound when each ink dot forms. The formed scab eventually will fall away, which reduces some of the original pigment in your head. And no doubt, your immune system will attack the pigments, causing them to shrink and fade over time. Notably, this gradual disappearing of the inked dots is different for people. Still, it necessitates the need for more micropigmentation scalp treatments to achieve the head’s required shade. Depending on your head, the scalp tattoo will involve different pigmentation shades. Undoubtedly, distinct shades are necessary for your scalp tattoo to make some pigment shades to stand out from other groups. Usually, lighter pigments are the first to be applied, while the follow-up sessions deposit darker shades on your head to create the impression of a full head of hair.
